Piracy has pushed the majority of Amazigh film producers into bankruptcy

Most Amazigh-speaking artisans live with real fears of growing piracy of Amazigh films and dramas, given the silence of official bodies, whose professionals say their work is merely following the expansion of illegal marketing by networks that don't care. Only a quick profit at the expense of Amazigh artist and companies operating in the sector.
Lahcen Sarhan, a Moroccan actor who specializes in portraying artistic roles in Amazigh-language cinematography, said piracy caused the closure of dozens of production enterprises because of their inability to cope with the growing activity of piracy networks in Morocco.
In recent years, companies have resorted to lowering the prices of CDs for Amazigh dramas to levels and prices below 15 dirhams. In which the responsible actors confront the Amazigh film in particular and the Amazigh culture in general. "
Khalid Bouicho, president of the first Amazigh film festival to be held in Casablanca until November 10th, told HSBC that Moroccan authorities are deliberately turning a blind eye to piracy, which is causing huge losses to the national economy. "The Amazigh film has managed to create its own market since The beginning of the 1990s, creating a boom in the distribution of video, and kept pace with the development at the level of CDs, where there were large companies working in the field.
The Amazigh film has made it possible, he adds, "to create a real market for production and consumption, but for cinematic experiments, it has remained limited because few have managed to gain support from film centers, and for video, it still suffers a lot from piracy."
"Piracy will kill the Amazigh film market in Morocco unless the responsible state organs deal with this negative phenomenon with the necessary rigor and fight it seriously," Bouchou Jazm said. Amazigh films are in the millions, and piracy has bankrupted 70% of Amazigh film production companies. "
